Canadian Visa for French citizens
French citizens often choose Canada as the destination of their travel. Since May of 2016, travelling to Canada is even more effortless. You can apply online for an eTA. Electronic Travel Authorization enables citizens from many different countries to travel to Canada by plane.
ETA is valid for 5 years from the issuing date, or until your passport expires. It is a multiple-entry visa, which mean that you can travel to Canada numerous times within the validity period. However, one stay cannot exceed 6 months at a time.

How the eTA application works
The eTA Canada application form is available in English on our website. Incorrect data provided can result in a delay or complete rejection. To prevent this, please double-check the data you put in the application form.
Although you can apply for an eTA at any time, we recommend that every traveller applies for it in advance. So that eTA will be processed before your flight. The processing time may take 72 hours.
There are three simple steps to applying:
- Apply Online: fill in an online application form, provide your data, passport details, the purpose for your travel, and your e-mail address.
- Make a payment: pay the handling fee using a credit or debit card. Or any other convenient method of online payment.
- Check your e-mail: once your payment is registered, check your e-mail for the confirmation number. You can check the status of your e-visa processing using this number. Within the next 72 hours, you will receive an e-mail with an eTA permit.
Requirements for French citizens:
- a valid passport (your passport has to be valid for at least six months ahead of the trip)
- an active e-mail address (onto which eTa is sent)
- a clean criminal record (you cannot be recorded for any serious crimes. However, non-serious offences do not count. You can still apply with a speeding ticket)
Please note that if your situation is unclear, you may have to send in some additional documents. This may elongate the processing time.

- What do I need to apply for an eTA?
You can easily apply for an eTA online. All you need is your passport, a credit card, and your email address.
2. How long is the processing time of an eTA application?
The process is usually completed within 72 hours. However, we recommend applying for an eTA as early as possible. (The exact date of arrival or departure is not necessary when submitting the application).
3. What happens if I don’t get an eTA?
You cannot enter Canada when travelling by plane without an eTA.
4. What happens if my eTA application is rejected? Can I still travel to Canada?
When your eTA application has been approved, you will receive an e-mail with your eTA information including your eTA number. If your eTA application is rejected, you will need to apply for a Canadian visa.
5. I have given incorrect information in my application?
If the information in your eTA application does not match the data from your passport, you will be refused to enter Canada. If you have noticed that you have entered incorrect data, we ask you to submit your application again. You can contact us via our contact page.
6. What if the information in my passport has changed or I have renewed my passport?
Since your approved eTA and the passport are linked, the validity of the eTA expires as soon as information in the passport changes. In this case, please apply for a new eTA with the current data from your passport.
7. I would like to cancel my application. What should I do?
Once the application is forwarded to the Canadian government system, the application can no longer be withdrawn or canceled. Due to this regulation, cancellations or repayments are excluded from our service.
Since an eTA for French citizens must be applied for at least 72 hours before the departure to Canada, we recommend that you apply as early as possible. After submitting your application on our website, we will send you a confirmation e-mail for your application and then the eTA approval.
